FAQ
01. How do I know if I really need therapy?
Therapy can be beneficial for anyone seeking to understand themselves better, improve their mental health, or navigate life's challenges more effectively. You don't need to have a severe issue to benefit from therapy; it's also for those who want personal growth or support during difficult times. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just curious about self-improvement, therapy can provide valuable insights and strategies.
02. What happens during a therapy session?
In individual therapy sessions, you'll talk one-on-one with your therapist in a safe, confidential environment. You can discuss whatever is on your mind, from current stressors to long-term issues. The therapist will listen, ask questions, and offer insights to help you understand your feelings, behaviours, and thought patterns. Together, you'll work on strategies for making positive changes in your life.
03. How long should I go to therapy?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the issues you're addressing, and how therapy is progressing. Some people find short-term therapy (a few weeks to a few months) helpful for specific issues, while others engage in long-term therapy (several months to years) for more complex or deep-seated issues. The therapist will work with you to determine an appropriate timeline for your therapy.
04. Will I have to talk about things I'm uncomfortable with?
Therapy often involves discussing sensitive or difficult topics, but you're in control of what you share. A good therapist will never force you to talk about something you're not ready to discuss. Over time, as you build trust with your therapist, you may find it easier to open up about uncomfortable subjects. Therapy is a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
05. What if I don't click with my therapist?
It's crucial to have good rapport with your therapist for therapy to be effective. If you don't feel comfortable or if you're not making progress, it's okay to consider finding a different therapist. Therapy is a very personal process, and sometimes it takes meeting a few therapists before you find the right match for you. Don't be discouraged; the right therapist for you is out there.

FAQ
01. How does couples therapy work?
Couples / Relational therapy involves partners working with a therapist to explore their relationship's dynamics, communication patterns, and conflicts. The therapist uses various techniques to help partners understand each other's perspectives, improve communication, and develop healthier ways of interacting. Sessions may involve discussions, exercises, and homework assignments tailored to the couple's specific needs.
02. What if my partner is more to blame for our issues?
Therapy focuses on the relationship rather than assigning blame to one partner. A skilled therapist will create a balanced environment where both partners can express their feelings and perspectives. The goal is to understand how both partners contribute to the relationship's dynamics and work together to make positive changes, not to judge or blame.
03. Can couples therapy actually save our relationship?
While couples/relational therapy can be highly effective in improving relationships, the outcome depends on various factors, including the couple's commitment to the process and willingness to change. Therapy can provide the tools and insights needed to address issues, but the success of therapy ultimately relies on both partners' efforts to apply what they learn.
04. What happens if we uncover more problems during therapy?
It's not uncommon for therapy to reveal deeper issues within the relationship. However, uncovering these problems is a vital step towards healing and improvement. Your therapist will guide you through addressing these issues, helping you understand their roots and work on solutions together. The process is designed to be constructive, aiming to strengthen your relationship in the long run.
05. How do we talk about very personal or embarrassing issues?
Therapists are trained to create a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for couples to share their thoughts and feelings. It's normal to feel hesitant about discussing sensitive topics, but remember that your therapist is there to help, not to judge. Being open and honest is crucial for therapy's success, and your therapist can provide guidance on how to communicate difficult subjects more comfortably.
family therapy
Family therapy is a collaborative process where family members work together with a therapist to strengthen their relationships and resolve conflicts. It provides a safe space for each member to express feelings, understand each other better, and learn effective communication and problem-solving skills.
Therapy aims to address issues affecting the family unit, improve dynamics, and promote healing and growth. By fostering understanding and cooperation, family therapy helps build a more supportive and harmonious family environment, enhancing the well-being of all members.

FAQ
01. What can we expect during our first family therapy session?
The first session is often about getting to know each other and setting goals for therapy. The therapist will likely ask each family member to share their perspective on the family's challenges and what they hope to achieve through therapy. It's a time for the therapist to understand the family dynamics, build rapport with each member, and outline how the therapy process will work.
02. Will family therapy involve discussing painful or private topics?
Yes, therapy may involve discussing sensitive topics to address underlying issues affecting the family. However, a skilled therapist will ensure these discussions happen in a respectful, safe, and supportive environment. It's important for healing and making progress, and the therapist will guide you through these conversations at a pace that feels comfortable for everyone.
03. How long does family therapy typically last?
The duration of family therapy varies depending on the family's unique circumstances and goals. Some families see improvements within a few sessions, while others may engage in therapy for several months or years. The therapist will work with you to set realistic expectations and continually evaluate progress toward your goals.
04. Can family therapy help if not all members are willing to participate?
Yes, family therapy can still be beneficial even if not every member is initially willing to participate. Therapists have strategies for engaging reluctant family members and can work with those who are willing to attend to initiate positive changes. Over time, as improvements are noticed, hesitant members may be more inclined to join.
05. What if conflicts arise during the therapy sessions?
Conflicts during therapy sessions are not uncommon and can actually be beneficial, as they provide real-time opportunities for the therapist to observe family dynamics and intervene with constructive feedback and strategies. The therapist will maintain a safe environment for all members, helping the family learn to resolve conflicts in healthier ways and communicate more effectively.

Activities can range from guided walks to mindfulness in nature. By fostering a deep connection with the environment, individuals gain insights, heal, and grow, benefiting from nature’s inherent ability to soothe the mind, body, and spirit, promoting overall health and happiness.

FAQ
01. What exactly is nature-based therapy, and how does it work?
Nature-based therapy, also known as ecotherapy, involves incorporating natural environments into the therapeutic process. It works by utilizing the calming, restorative effects of nature to improve mental health and well-being. Activities can include guided nature walks, mindfulness practices in natural settings, and nature-exploration. The idea is that direct contact with nature can help reduce stress, enhance mood, and promote a sense of peace and well-being.
02. Do I need to be physically fit to participate in nature-based therapy?
No, nature-based therapy can be tailored to individuals of all fitness levels. Therapists aim to ensure that activities are accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of physical ability. The focus is on connecting with nature in a way that is comfortable and beneficial for you, whether that means sitting quietly in a garden or taking a gentle walk in the woods.
03. Can nature-based therapy help with specific mental health issues?
Yes, nature-based therapy has been shown to be effective for a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, and PTSD. The natural environment offers a unique setting that can complement traditional therapy techniques, providing an additional tool for managing mental health conditions. However, it's important to work with a therapist to determine the best approach for your specific needs.
04. What if I live in an urban area with limited access to nature?
Therapists can adapt nature-based therapy to fit urban environments by making use of local parks, gardens, and even indoor plants. The key is to engage with natural elements available to you, however small. Some therapists might also offer virtual nature-based experiences or suggest activities that can be done on your own in nearby natural settings.
05. How often should I participate in nature-based therapy to see benefits?
The frequency can vary depending on individual circumstances and therapy goals. Some may benefit from weekly sessions, while others might find occasional nature-based activities sufficient. Your therapist will work with you to develop a plan that suits your lifestyle and needs. Regular exposure to nature, even outside of formal therapy sessions, can contribute to ongoing mental health and well-being.

FAQ
01. Where are you located? Is there parking?
The studio is located on the second floor of 91 Albert Street unit 2E. Please have a seat in the common area when you arrive and wait to be called in.
Paid street parking is available as well as nearby parking lots and parkade parking. Street parking is free after 5:30 pm.
02. Can I do therapy online?
Yes! Online therapy has grown in popularity and acceptance, especially in the wake of global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here are some of the benefits online therapy offers:
1. Accessibility
Online therapy makes mental health services more accessible if you are living in remote or rural areas where you might not have such services available nearby. It also opens up access for people who are differently abled or are unable to leave home.
2. Convenience and Flexibility
You can often schedule sessions at times that are most convenient for you, including outside of typical office hours. This flexibility can make it easier to integrate therapy into busy schedules.
3. Comfort and Privacy
For many, having therapy sessions in the comfort and privacy of your own home can reduce the stigma or anxiety associated with seeking mental health treatment. It can also make it easier to open up with your therapist.
4. Safety and Health
Especially relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic, online therapy eliminates the risk of transmitting infectious diseases during in-person meetings.
While online psychotherapy offers numerous benefits, it's important to note that it may not be suitable for everyone. Certain situations may require in-person therapy for more effective treatment.
03. Who do you see in your practice?
I see individuals, couples and all varieties of partnerships, as well as families.
04. How long is a session? How often should I come?
A therapy session is 60 minutes long. We wrap up around 55 minutes, then use the remaining 5 minutes to schedule the next session and process payment.
If you're looking to do more intensive work or are needing extra support, every week or every two weeks is a good fit for most people. As things start to feel more settled, it's common to move to sessions every three weeks, every month, or every few months.
It's also important to factor in how much time you have and what your budget is. Allowing time for integration between sessions is also important!
05. How long does therapy take?
How long you attend therapy is up to you! When you first start therapy, things can sometimes feel worse before they feel better. Sticking to the process even when things feel hard is an important part of learning and growth.
If you're finding therapy helpful and want to continue, great. If it's no longer feeling helpful or the issue that brought you to therapy feels resolved, it's ok to end.
Endings in general can feel challenging, and deciding how you want to navigate ending therapy can be therapeutic and an opportunity for healing and growth.
06. What does the first session look like?
The first session is really about getting to know you and how you hope therapy can help.
We talk about privacy and confidentiality in therapy, how therapy works, and how I work as a therapist.
Therapists often call the first few sessions "assessment sessions" because we gather a lot of information that helps guide our work together.
And of course there is space to address questions or worries you might have as well.
07. Are you covered by insurance?
I am recognized by many insurance companies such as Blue Cross, Manulife, and Canada Life. I'm happy to support you in the process of navigating therapy coverage through your insurance policy.
08. What methods of payment do you accept?
Credit cards.
Credit card information is securely stored and payment is processed automatically after session.
